Responding to calls to wear masks in the flu outbreak Badenoch says she's "still slightly traumatised" by mask wearing. Pathetic - and irresponsible from a public figure.

This is the same Badenoch whose response to the Budget was a personal attack on Rachel Reeves for flakiness.

🤷

I'm not at all surprised that Covid support schemes were open to abuse. A colleague in the local authority I worked in was moved to the business grants team. Spent a lot of time checking for dubious claims. #r4today

We don't need more cars in urban areas. We need more public transport and bike lanes. #r4today

We paid for Netflix for a year, ran out of stuff we wanted to watch and now find plenty on terrestrial TV including lately Wild Cherry on the BBC and the Channel 5 Play for Today. #r4today

Interesting chat about absolute and relative poverty on #wato. Made me think of all those people who relied on public libraries for internet access and then couldn't when austerity closed them.

Vicky Young's first question to the Labour MP re the investment in energy infrastructure is: "Is this another broken promise?".

Surely Labour wouldn't have included in their manifesto:

"We won't ensure energy companies invest in infrastructure."

So tiresome from #politicslive.

Surprising that Cleverly is annoyed about the delay in local elections in what will be 'Greater Essex'. Would have thought he'd want to hang on to political allies in his area for as long as possible - unless he's going to defect to Reform UK too. #r4today

Emma Barnett turns from vicious attack dog to cloying kitten owner with human interest interviews. It was a relief she was stopped in her tracks by yet another line failure. #r4today

Looking forward to hearing about the political backgrounds of all the other interviewees on #r4today, not just union leaders, just for balance.

Financial guy on #r4today re regulation: "if you hammer the banks too much it will make it difficult for them to lend".

Is he old enough to remember what caused the 2008 crash?

The more we hear the media pulling apart the budget I wonder is the OBR the neutral player it's supposed to be? #r4today

Ah, now we know what the BBC is up to with it's headlines - ragebait. Grow up lads. #r4today

I think we can safely say #bbclaurak doesn't give a flying hoot for poorer people. The money is hers, all hers!

We probably need more financial "headroom" to deal with Trump's tariffs and defending Ukraine. Imagine the ire of the right wing media if we didn't do the latter. #bbclaurak

Barnett re the Budget: "Is anyone happy?"

I'd guess people on the living wage are.

Maybe Rishi Sunak could pay for some prostate testing given he's got some cash to spare. #r4today

Nick Robinson doesn't seem to understand that we pay taxes in order to redistribute within our society. His Tory Party prefers to give taxes to mates for corrupt contracts. Labour prefer to at least try to give to people who actually need help. #r4today
November 27, 2025 at 8:28 AM
Badenoch's speech wasn't "powerful" as Nick Robinson calls it. It was bullying condescension which was completely unjustified given she was part of the last government's disasterous mismanagement of the economy.

How can the Tory claim the bad Brexit deal was the fault of other parties when they had a 60 seat majority at the time? #c4news

We're still using railway tracks because we feel safe enough to do so with regulation. Will no-one consider the importance of regulation of AI?

Finally we get someone on #r4today saying lower paid and younger people have benefitted from Labour economic policy.

But now we're back to Mason talking about "the final act" for Reeves and Starmer. 😡

I've done jury service twice twenty years apart. Looked to me as though there was a marked decline in the ability of the CPS to prepare adequately for a case so there's a reasonable chance of conviction. #r4today

How can the Tory leader of Epping Forest council claim that council tax payers won't be paying for their appeal against the Bell Hotel being used as an asylum seekers hostel when they're going to use council reserves? What happens when they lose and the reserves are empty? #r4today
