Enough rain here to sink the Ark! Dogs are wrapped up against the rain and, Iris who loves a photo, will pose. Enzo on the other hand, is more of the “No photos,” variety ❤️

A few years ago, our friend Aidan messaged his dad, to ask if he knew about a place called Bully’s Acre in our town, Newtownards, with possible famine links. Nobody knew much.

After a few years of talking with friends and neighbours, and researching the history, we knew this story needed to be told
Our short film about the Great Hunger in Newtownards.

There are Bully’s Acres all over Ireland – mass graves, where victims of an Gorta Mór and harsh workhouse regimes lie buried.

‘The Forgotten Famine’ is about one of them, in a quiet corner of County Down…

He didn’t just lower the tone—he buried it in the basement. That wasn’t leadership. It was a profanity-laced hissy fit in a suit.

The real horror? Over half of the USA chose this fool. Democratically. With ballots.

He continues to horrify me on the daily.
Absolute fucking eejit.

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

13th June. This plaque (at Dublin Castle), features my favourite line (as Gaeilge) on any plaque. "A rinne smidirini de ..." *Smidirini* - great word. (Unfortunately, this post is ruined by my keyboard's inability to give me a *fada*! Apologies.) #speirgorm

ICE thugs have raided construction sites, restaurants, and farms across the U.S. to kidnap undocumented workers. To those half-wits who claim that 'illegal immigrants' are taking your jobs and proudly voted for a convicted felon, have you applied to fill those jobs yet? I didn't think so.

But as a historian I am looking at front pages today and must wonder: What is the point of remembering #VEDay 80 years on, what is the point of our thanks, when we are failing to protect the sacrifices made? 🧵

If the lights went out tomorrow, no power, no phones, no traffic lights — would you know how to live without the noise?

Today, Spain went strange. No electricity. No traffic lights. We boiled water in the garden on a camper stove & we barbecued dinner.

A strange day; light has now been restored
