The term "Luddite" as a pejorative synonym for "technophobe" was a technocrat PR coup; that's not what Luddites were about. They were a labour movement fighting to give workers control over technologies which were advancing w/o oversight and rapidly automating them out of their jobs. Sound familiar?

bigotry is tautologically an irrational prejudice against persons or people based on immutable or social characteristics, not legitimate criticisms against the most ecologically devastating technology since the coal-powered steam engine, hope this helps
an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you’d agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing “dna” with “bits” doesn’t make it ok
i’m completely serious when i say that much of the dismissive ai discourse on here fires the bigotry neuron

ML is important in pharm/bio now, but LLMs aren't. You can say things like EvoFormer looks like LLMs if you squint & just say LLMs are transformers but they aren't & LLMs trained on SMILES haven't been useful - GNNs & classical models best them. LLM boosters claiming pharm impact is stolen valor imo
