#AoNZ weather events over the last 2 decades ( not yet including recent events )

This shows the accelerating expensive deadly results of ignoring climate change.

Any politician not addressing this leading up to the election is doing kiwis a great disservice #nzpol

Still thinking/exploring the data around bread prices. Even if you were comfortable with the conventional wisdom that by the time you factor in this, that, and the other thing it is as cheap to buy bread as to make it, you might want to look at that assumption again after the past year.

The current NZ Govt has signalled it's response to a few towns in NZ losing homes to flooding etc every year

- no more buyouts
- leaving it to the market, so insurers making places uninsurable

So, no govt responsibility for decades of not adapting

Quick CPI update. Basically, a mixture of some global pressures, and administered price increases. Govt could pay for more infra catchup (for eg) but is instead forcing councils to hike rates.

life ending and infrastructure destroying floods are now an annual occurrence in new zealand. there is no political recognition of this new reality, and thus there is no resourcing for its prevention. we are not ready

If Mark Carney is right and the rules-based order is gone, where are we as a nation? New Zealand was an actor in the creation of the post-war consensus, but it's hard to imagine a leadership less fit to meet the moment than the current lot.

Either way, this recovery may not be big/wide enough for voters to ‘feel it’ by an election, within 290 days. Although that might not be enough to make it a one-term Govt. It may win due to a lack of enthusiasm for a cautious & divided Opposition. #nzpol thekaka.substack.com/p/luxon-bett... 3/3

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.
