Reckon part of it may be that if he backs off it now, that could expose him to lawsuits from people who believed him on it before & suffered harms as a result.

What even is the deal with those curtains? Does he close them when he's doing dirty deals, so the Declaration won't See? Is it a Warehouse 13 Artifact that would do Terrible Things if directly exposed to political activities the Founding Fathers would disapprove of?

You still can't count on users to read jack, yet that's no reason not to provide guidance when necessary. You can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink, yet that doesn't mean you should never bother leading a horse to water.

IMO having to provide instructions is itself a UX failure; the design should be so self-evident or automatic that no instructions are necessary. That said, this is an asymptotic ideal that may not be feasible in every situation, yet still worth aspiring to.

Docs in general went to shite a while back, when the trademark holder moved production to cut-rate factories, chasing profits & fast-fashion. The UK factory that made the Good Docs™ of the '90s & prior still makes them to the same high standards, just branded as Solovair now.
