One thing I will say abt Emma Hayes as USWNT manager is one of her weak points, which is prob tied to her background as a club manager, is understanding the idea that the team represents the United States and there are implications to that beyond things on the field or within the group of players

Just had someone use one of my photos from a vigil for Renee Good to claim my church was violating the separation of church and state demanded by its non-profit status because... one of the people attending was wearing a DSA shirt.
I am profoundly exhausted at the lack of civic education today.

We silently held up ABOLISH ICE signs during the anthem, and security came to our seats and said if we didn't hand them over they would have LASD remove us from the game. I asked if it was the stadium rules, and security said it was the team's decision. So there's that.

When I was a kid, evangelicals were obsessed with the nobility of hypothetical martyrdom, and I really don't know what to say about the fact that a president that most of those evangelicals voted for is busy turning people into modern martyrs and they're busy making excuses for why it's justified.

It’s tough to tune in to the USWNT game today knowing this generation of players isn’t the type to make a united statement against the fascist violence we’re seeing in MN & all across the US. It’s just sad knowing that a lot of us used to feel a strong connection to the WNT bc of its brave activism.

Now is the time for a new generation of leaders to face the test of whether they carry the torch of standing up for what's right under that banner.
I am most interested in what, if anything, the USWNT does today to show support for MN. I’ve had concerns that the loss of key vets might take away that lead from the front mentality so this is a good chance to confirm the kids are alright.

You have to be firm and direct about the hate and why it's unacceptable and you have to make policy to make sure it is penalized and players are protected.
