Election Day in Norway 🇳🇴

The outcome will have consequences for Norwegian climate governance.

If the Progress party take part in a new government climate policy may be dismantled. If the Green Party+two small socialist parties gain influence on a Labour gov ambitions will increase. 1/n

Just finished Lyndal Roper's new book about the @germanpeasantswar.bsky.social, which was excellent. Think it must be the first time I ever see the phrase "fobbed off" used in a history book like that. All round very enjoyable.

What if we measured progress not just by income or life expectancy - but by how well we live with the rest of nature?

A major new paper proposes the 'Nature Relationship Index (NRI)' - a bold rethink of development metrics.

Here’s why it matters.👇

One of the hazards of medieval banking was that borrowers had a habit of running into halberds and other sharp objects at the most inopportune times. Such an event was the battle of Nancy, January 5, 1477 when the Medici Bank lost another one of its customers, Charles "le Temeraire" duke of Burgundy

Watch the planet breathe as it shifts through the seasons.

Atmospheric CO2 oscillates annually due to the skew distribution of land (the breathing), but it is rising over time due to CO2 emissions with El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) adding variability.

Compared to Europe, the US has weak environmental and climate regulations, but strong science. Now what has worked is ripped apart. The American population will be exposed to more pollution and health risks and the whole 🌎 will suffer due to less knowledge. It is 💔 to watch this play out.
