Sorry, to be clear I wasn't criticizing the plan, more making the point that I'm not sure it matters for the sake of this argument whether someone was democratically elected or just there for reasons such as appointment.
I guess my corollary question: "how do we ensure our leaders are in our class"

Isn't the problem that "being in a leadership position"...whether through democracy or appointment...is incentivized? Like didn't China's Second Five Year Plan have problems because everyone was incentivized to show better numbers to their superiors (either through carrot or stick)?

I had heard that and I genuinely feel lucky that I only had one (horrible of course) interaction with him and was able to block him last year.

I actually worked at an Amazon subsidiary at the time and I remember the news being that Bezos had seem something that was going to change cities completely. That it would be one of the biggest inventions in human history (we schmucks at the bottom had no idea what it was)
