For years I have heard people saying "You need an elevator pitch". At #GodotFest, the hypothetical scenario finally actually happened: A game dev in the hotel elevator actually asked me what sort of game I was working on and I managed to explain it before they left the elevator at the next floor.

Found some notes from #playtesting 2 years ago, one of the first instances I had observing strangers play my game for the first time. Was interesting insight, still much applicable!

#gamedev PSA: #Steam recently changed how review score is calculated. Previously it was a global average. Since this August, the score a user sees is based off the reviews in the user's language. So there's less risk to localise to languages with lower than average rating habits:

Gaming Market Analyst Chris Zukowski argues indie games are currently in a new golden era, considering a large portion of Steam's best sellers atm are easy-to-make genres for small teams with short development cycles and low budgets. #indiedev

Upon seeing this meme, I just finished playtesting my own mining game. Think I'm safe.

I've seen this statisticial pattern on other games, with Chinese speaking gamers representing a high proportion of negative reviews. As was the case in Silksong, the original translations were pretty bad. Having bad translations in your game gives a worse review score than none at all! #gamedev

For those of you whose venn diagram of interests has overlap between data analysis and gaming; very interesting analysis of Steam reviews on SilkSong:

Did a new round of local playtesting today. I keep seeing that players don't notice the item hotbar (top of the screen) and thus often don't change tool (number keys). Any ideas to make it more clear? (There's no tutorial atm, so I'm atm just observing what people figure out going in blind)

Some indie devs have recently reported reaching negative amounts of Steam wishlists! So if regular wishlists send an email when the game releases, what do negative wishlists do? 🤔

Following the age old video game tradition of having rooms of random wooden crates.
(Also managed to snap the screenshot the moment the character was blinking unevenly, as he some times does)
