Sometimes I remember I'm supposed to be promoting this thing. I'm proud of it. If you're into incantatory grief poetry, given to the rushed wallowing of modernity, or find yourself searching for the fragile stillness between trauma and music, you might like it.

Cranachan, where have you been all my life?

Years ago, my wife's best friend and I used to hate each other. Turned out we're just remarkably similar people and that was offensive to us for awhile.

Anyway, she brought me this today. And if there's ever a measure of true friendship, it's certainly cured ham.

It had been so long since I'd made hollandaise that I had to look up a recipe (those "quick and easy" kitchen hacks ain't it, by the way).

Pleased to report that I still got it. Perfectly silky, tangy, rich, utterly delicious.

It's difficult to acknowledge these things within a fundamentally death-denying culture.

End the stigma.
We don't talk enough about the ravages of addiction and suicide in this country

The streetcar was invented in Richmond, VA, and so was the streetcar suburb — a distinct phenomenon of walkable density and mixed-use greater metropolitan area living.

They're a perfect blend of urban accessibility and breathable green space. And some of them are still somewhat affordable.

Basically, if you didn't get the joke when they called it "orwellian butter" and are buying it up because you saw it on TV (not because Thomas Keller called it the best in the world), I hate you and you're the worst.
I really wish I had pulled the trigger on ordering Animal Farm butter before The Bear made it fucking impossible to find.

I don't really have any aspirations for literary fame. The dream is to make a living off of writing. To help people in some detached way.

But I can't help longing to be considered a "luminary."

I just really like the title.

The problem with calling all criticism/denoincement of Israel antisemitic (most of it is not — Israel has become a shameful and genocidal monster), is that nobody will care when something is/actually/antisemitic.
“'Dressed up as "activism" and "performance art," this was nothing less than the revival of one of the oldest and most dangerous antisemitic tropes in history,' said the American Jewish Committee in a statement." www.jta.org/2025/11/21/u...

"Seldom have we seen such a sickening display of full-throated antisemitism," the local JCRC said.

It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

So swastikas are "potentially divisive" but Antifa flags are terrorism.

Got it. Yup. Clear as fuckin day.

Try as I might to overcome it, I'm sensitive to accents. The ones I like I will subconsciously and embarrassingly start to mimic in conversation after a few days in their area. And the ones I dislike are almost physically uncomfortable for me to listen to. Just maddening.

It's the national Day of Trans Remembrance. I wrote this piece about the Trans Remembrance Project back in April for SevenPonds, an end-of-life magazine.

Tonight I'll light a candle for the ones who shone too bright for this world.
