Last week I turned down one conference invitation and one invited lecture in the US. It’s just not worth the risk right now, even if I’m in a demographic less likely than most to trigger suspicion. All it takes is one border guard who doesn’t like the look of you.

New in PN: The regime's mind-bending lies are a tactic

"The VP told them they could kill anyone who annoyed them. Pretti annoyed them. So they killed him. Now the lies Bovino and Noem are telling about Pretti’s death are intended to encourage further extrajudicial executions and likely will do so."
The regime's mind-bending lies are a tactic
Thinking about them in terms of truth or falsity is a category error.

Monday's meeting of Starmer, Macron and Merz could turn out to be even more important because of the US national security strategy. They need to decide whether to say in public what they are thinking in private: that the threat is no longer just Putin, it's also Trump

We should be having a debate about how British incompetence put the lives of thousands of Afghans at risk. Instead we're having a debate about 'how many criminals they let in'. Tells you everything you need to know about where we're at as a country inews.co.uk/opinion/tori...
Shockingly, the Tories did the right thing on secret Afghan asylum plan
The initial error was egregious, but the response was, at least, morally clear-sighted and practical

Even *if* you accept Stephen Miller’s (textually, historically, and morally indefensible) claim that undocumented immigrants are not entitled to due process, you’d *still* need due process to ensure that the individuals at issue are, in fact, undocumented.

His argument fails even on its own terms.
