Overall I liked Ultraman Orb quite a bit. It's a pretty different Ultra series with some fresh ideas, but the beating heart is the same one I've come to know and love. Good stuff.

The new Kaiju were great and I think most of the returning ones were used well. Zetton especially. Plus Orb's origin form is just a super clean design for a new gen Ultraman. Looks good.

There was some trademark great Ultra action, and I definitely prefer cards as the gimmick over Spark Dolls, though the Orb Calliber was testing my patience. We simply do not need that many cutaways. The fusion forms were a huge step up from Ginga's beam borrower.

I wasn't sure about the SSP at first, but they absolutely grew on me, and I really enjoyed Gai as a protagonist. He feels like the mid-point between Sorato and Dan Moroboshi, though Naomi is the real heart of the show and their dynamic works well.

Look Orb, I'm glad you got your original form (Forb) back, but also that's too many transformation cutaways. I don't need to see Gai spin the wheel of fortune for every attack.

"Orb Calliber" I think you mean the Sworb.

If they wait until the last episode for her to find out Gai is Orb, I'm gonna explode.

If any form should beat Zeppandon it should be Hurricane Slash. Jack beat Zetton II, and Zero beats everybody.

Also Zeppandon is awesome. The first two final bosses combined into one? Good stuff.

Zetton continues to have some of the best sound design. Love it so much.

This episode does a great job highlighting one of Ultraman's underlying themes, that life and humanity and nature are all imperfect, and sometimes it gets ugly and violent, but we're trying dangit.

In all the years of Ultraman, is this the first time we've ever really had a truly berserk Ultra? We've had evil and possessed Ultras, but Orb is doing something different entirely. He's not evil, just vicious.

Rip Naomi's ugly car.

Galactron's diagnosis of what's wrong with earth and why is fairly unique. It doesn't blame humans for mistreating earth as much as it blames nature for developing wrong and passing on its bad lessons to humanity. It's a different take on an eco-minded invader.

While a lot of it is done with a greenscreen and a dream, the Galactron debut episode has some really nice cinematography and great moments of scale.

Oh hey, Ryo Kinomoto is here.

Having Orb's fusions be a crutch he's forced to rely on rather than a straightforward power-up is an interesting twist, though I have to wonder how they'll make the base form work if/when he gets it back.

Orb's Thunder Breaster rampage was pretty sick. Made me realize that we don't really get much of Evil Ultras fighting Kaiju.

The idea of Zoffy being the one to seal away or bring balance to these dark powers is pretty funny. Like I know he's an incredibly powerful warrior in his own right, but he's also Ultraman's beleaguered boss who has to come bail the brothers out when they get in over their heads.

Even Belial's card is a huge jerk.

Maga-Orochi feels like if Destoroyah was less crab and maybe a bit more dragon. Really cool Kaiju design. Surprised by how much they had him physically fight Orb.
