Sure the Showa Ultras might slit your throat or lop off your head, but I feel like Max wouldn't hesitate to just nail you in the kidneys.
Oh man they got the Ultra Q gang back. Sick.
Oh buddy, you don't know the half of it.
So they took two of the most infamous Toho retools and combined them into one guy.

That's awesome.
Oh my gosh we're doing an Ultra Q episode.
Ruganoga feels like a Heisei spin on the kind of Kaiju that might show up in something like Taro. Just a horrible jerk.
You have no idea how excited I get when we get a fight in a nighttime cityscape. And with flames? Perfection. The action in this episode was spectacular. Max might have the best aircraft sceens of any Ultra show I've seen.
The Christmas special won't be the same without Father of Ultra Santa Claus.
Episode 25 was really nice. Feels like it's been a minute since we've had a story with a friendly intelligent alien, and this was a good one. Plus that final battle? Looked great.
When I saw The Targeted Town, it literally took over my brain. That night I snapped some pictures of Seven, trying to capture a similar feeling. It's a small thing, just some amateur toy photography, but I consider myself lucky to have been inspired by Akio Jissoji and his team.
Now I'm very sad.

Getting the back to back return of Jissoji and Nihei feels bittersweet knowing they've both passed away since, with this episode in particular being the last Ultraman thing Jissoji ever directed. I'm gonna miss seeing his stuff in the mix.
I am going to need clarification on what exactly from Ultraseven happened. They've yet to show Seven but someone threw the slugger. And we see someone in a UG uniform.
Playing monkey noises over footage of people using phones is the kind of creative decision that can only come from the mind of a true auteur
Having Masanari Nihei return in the same episode where they fight a monster mutated by humanity's technological advancements with a connection to water is a nice touch.
It's nice to see Masanari Nihei again, and he's basically playing Ide again.

But also now I'm sad.
One of the great things about Ultraman is that if a Jissoji episode shows up and drowns you in hallucinogenics for 22 minutes, it does so without warning or follow up. It's got very little to do with any overarching plot, they just did it because they could.
I just can't stop wondering what was going through the minds of the kids who watched this as it aired.
Man, it's so cool that they got Akio Jissoji back so many years later. He was such an essential part of what gave those early shows their unique feel, and his episodes are some of the ones that stuck with me the most.
Episode 21 was a faithful tribute to Gomora, changing his story from a unique discovery being exhibited at an expo to a rare animal being trafficked for nefarious purposes. Feels less like a King Kong story and more like a sci-fi twist on what happens to real endangered animals.
Whacked in the face with your own dismembered tail is some pretty brutal disrespect
Always smuggled, never cuddled. Its our boy.
A 2-in-1 combination of torch and pitchfork. The perfect tool for banishing invading monsters.
