Oh they’re both worth watching, I just like how the largely disregarded first film becomes a little in-joke in the second

💯 In that vein I recommend It’s Always Fair Weather, which is darker than a lot of the old musicals & whose box office suffered accordingly but you get to see Gene Kelly dance on roller skates—not roller dancing, the feet leave the ground

It’s actually one of the weaker of her & Gene Kelly’s output but “Get Happy” is irresistible

I’m my grandmother but (mostly) without the depression

A swift recovery to them both!

Really something, isn’t it.

I’ll take it in that their massive cultural footprint means they generate a lot of free publicity just by showing up but also they need to be dick punched into a stupor

Yes but do I also get a teeny little fisherman’s hat

I saw the forecast of even more snow Monday afternoon-evening & went "NO GODDAMMIT I HAVE TO DRIVE"

You'd better not have a lot of kitchen equipment either, just what level of hell do you want the Calvinist God to condemn you to

That movie (which I wasn't immune to either, when a relative was in the hospital I watched it repeatedly as comfort viewing) is very much where I remember everything changing & it hasn't gone back, & won't

You can say that I ain't free, it don't worry me
November 30, 2025 at 3:41 AM
No, everyone should live in a stark little beige cube with no physical media, any other lifestyle is probably gay or something

Good God, y'all

The answer will always be The Avengers
November 30, 2025 at 3:38 AM
That voice sticks with you, doesn't it
November 30, 2025 at 3:35 AM
A couple of their actor/filmmaker profiles lately are approaching Vanity Fair vapidity, might have to lower that to 10-15%
November 30, 2025 at 3:34 AM
Though I will say the old-era magazine was at least publishing the article that became Silent Spring & devoting an entire issue to Hiroshima, that's never happening again
November 30, 2025 at 3:33 AM
Literally decades ago they had a low-key TV ad where a very mid-Atlantic-cultured voice quoted some very long ago writer calling it "the best magazine that ever was!" & yes, between that & the Shawn connection I was an easy mark for that kind of "aspiring to higher-middlebrow tastes" kind of thing

I've had cats where they wouldn't let me trim their nails then got stuck in the carpet then got mad at me when I touched their paws to unhook them from the carpet, logic is their strong suit

Just keep talking to him & going about your life near & around him, he might eventually start to relax. I know how unpredictable all of that is though
November 30, 2025 at 3:20 AM
Aww he's got that classic "I would come out but you'd shoot me with your laser eyes or maybe it's the other way around" look
