Girl on Girl is out today! And got the review of my literal dreams from the Washington Post—I am truly a bit emotional at someone seeing what I was trying to do with the book so clearly. wapo.st/3ECIW0t
Review | How 2000s pop culture taught us that sex is a currency
In “Girl on Girl,” Sophie Gilbert turns a critical eye on misogyny without settling into outrage or pity.

Once again, we need to define what “feminism” is here. Not everything any woman ever does—not even in the political realm, and not even concerning gender—is “feminism.” Opposing the rights of women as a class to equal status and dignity is in fact called “antifeminism.”

A recent essay, “The Great Feminization,” posits that the growing influence of women is harming U.S. institutions. @sophiegilbert.bsky.social argues that the real problem facing American culture is quite different:
No, Women Aren’t the Problem
America is rapidly becoming the manosphere, but, sure, let’s go after the “feminization” of culture.

My go-to lunch is a can of butter beans, pan fried till crispy, a can of tuna, thinly sliced red onion left to sit a minute in red wine vinegar, and olive oil. Add arugula if you're fancy.

And actually astonishing when you think about it: The Trump administration's top officials are choosing to separate themselves from the public—more to the point: separate themselves from any visible protest—and live on military bases.

Recently finished @sophiegilbert.bsky.social's Girl on Girl which contextualizes the culture of the late 90s/early 00s, and what led to and surrounded the push to extreme exposure, especially for women. Highly recommend

Also useful for understanding why so many women in their 40s are full of rage
I think a lot of people don’t realize how insanely pervasive and coercive the early 2010s “the only way to make it as a young writer is to publish insanely confessional, raw online essays about your darkest secrets and trauma” culture was.
