Look none of this is difficult.

The billionaires want us to hate each other. They're buying every newspaper and social media company to flood the space with bots and hate speech to keep us fractured and divided. And we could do that - and tear each other apart - or we could try to fix things.

the primary purpose of AI is organizing vast amounts of data (ie, your data) and creating an instantaneous point of contact so that billionaires and authoritarians can generate files on people in seconds

the secondary purpose is "helping you with your emails"
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Hello AI is a data collection and mass surveillance apparatus masquerading as a public utility. It's not there to help you.

You are the product. Your data is being collected.

Update:

I am apparently a dumbass (this is fine)

Police history is equal parts hilarious and awful

They have spontaneously arisen at various points in history to primarily enforce the laws that rich people hold most dear which tends to be... property. The slavery point is apt.

From what I've been reading, it appears to have been a lot of "get the big guy to get other people to do what we want" and "get that gang and make them legal and then use that gang to get people to do what we want."

been reading about the history of American Policing since getting dunked on for this and it's equal parts hilarious and awful

also yeah maybe nothing's really changed
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Yep, agreed with you there. Just thought it might be interesting to look into his "lesser" work given the rate at which he is invoked in the present moment.
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
This is absolutely what I've read in the last hour yes. Also, it sure looks like a lot of police forces were codified in the 1850's which means... that a lot of them in the South WERE established precisely for the claimed reasons.

The North appears to have been different, but yeah.
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Oooof. Didn't he also publish a diary on this?
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Yeah this is well stated. It also happened to be in a conversation at a party and said in a way that was kind of outrageous, but that just sounds like me making excuses when it was mostly just ignorance on my part. Looking into it now... the history of policing is much darker than expected.
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
For sure! And reading a lot on it now. The history of policing is wild.

Yeah been reading a history of the police since getting dunked on a bit for this post and it's far wilder than expected
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Yeah time to read a little more American history
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
And to be clear, I was mostly questioning the claim that police didn't exist before this and were only codified to serve this purpose, which... may still have been the case in certain jurisdictions.

Clearly I didn't have a great education in history.
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
you know what that's fair
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Either way, seems pretty naive in retrospect
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
Yeah fair question. I think it's two reasons:

1) There are a lot of reasons for some kind of law enforcement apparatus to exist, and I had a hard time believing that it came about solely for the reasons stated

2) At the time, I had a hard time believing in this kind of organized evil
duendeonfuego.bsky.social
A friend used to tell me that the police started as a system to catch runaway slaves in the South and I never quite believed it until now

Dollars to donuts those edgelords have never organized an actual protest consisting of more than like five edgelord friends
dynamicsymmetry.bsky.social
Like I know there are edgelord leftists out there who look down their noses at shit like No Kings but sorry you guys, the more mass protest looks fun and family-friendly, the bigger it gets and the better its chances of being broadly effective
