A big problem is kids from families with the means spend a lot of money on prep for tests that measure a narrow ability.

If you move to a system of "did the student demonstrate an acceptable level of understanding the course material" you're flunking half the students at a lot of high schools.

Do you want teachers to give an honest answer?

Truly a spectacular discussion.

I'd call anyone who claims CAIR is a "foreign lobby" a bigot & the same applies to AIPAC. They are both *American* organisations
You are a bigot.

This is some great history.

I'm less than convinced what you describe always happens when a wheelchair user is blocked by someone else. People can be oblivious & some are entitled shitheads. The robots need some sort of voice interaction before they're ready for mass use, imo.

It's not clear that they do. My comparison is the couple pushing their twins in a double stroller while walking the dog. Annoying & often unwilling to concede space!

I think the missing function for the robots is voice interaction, so if you say "robot, please back up!" it can say "ok" & back up.

Fair enough, but I notice any time I say something less than gleefully enthusiastic about this candidate, someone either argues I'm missing the reasons why she's what the party needs or simply blocked. Of course, I'm an "old" who thinks electing people based on fame isn't good for democracy.

"The postal service is unique in that it treats all residences of equal importance no matter how remote."

Like much of what you posted, this is simply wrong. Over a million people live in places where there's no mail delivery to their residence & they aren't all super remote places.

Being skeptical of a candidate whose most significant achievement is blowing up on TikTok by making fun of Tucker Carlson, who has lived in the district for less than 1 year, is not "deranged hatred". She can make her case, but there are at least 4 other more qualified progressives running.

USFG = US Federal Government
November 29, 2025 at 6:07 PM
Wait a second, lol. You don't think government services are supposed to be useful?

Robots don't have thoughts or feelings, but they do have behaviors. They do in fact stop to let people pass & move aside as much as space allows. Not all humans can be bothered.
November 29, 2025 at 5:22 PM
A mail carrier pushing their cart takes up a larger space. They're delivering stuff the same as the robot. I'll let chat decide who is delivering the more useful products in 2025.

(Not an anti-USPS comment. Delivery is a productive function.)

I guess we differ on the importance of performative anger vs a track record of values in elected office & a commitment to stand for them.
November 29, 2025 at 7:13 AM
Social media savvy isn't everything & if we want to talk about lesser known candidates, I'd rank Mike Simmons over Kat. He's got a track record of being super progressive, but not running down the Democratic Party as part of his identity.
November 29, 2025 at 7:10 AM
I don't want "shouty & angry" left equivalents of Matt Gaetz or Lauren Boebert. It feels good online, but those types don't do anything important.

There were a lot of photographers out there, but she had to hire one to focus on her & get the images she wanted. It's not a bad plan for a candidate that relies on social media fans to fund the campaign, but we see the cynicism when Republicans do it.
November 29, 2025 at 6:58 AM
I'm sorry, but "good at social media" & "vague stances on hot button issues" was Trump's strategy. I'm dubious those skills make an effective legislator.
November 29, 2025 at 6:53 AM
She hired a photographer to film her in Broadview. She knows how social media works & it's become her main source of campaign funding.

Before the ICE protests, Gaza was her signature issue. I just wish she could take a clear stance on whether a 2 state solution is acceptable or not.

IL-9 is in my backyard. I think Daniel Biss is going to win. He's not "milquetoast", but he's not doing civil disobedience for attention. If she wins, Kat either figures out how to work with her caucus to deliver for her constituents, or she has a short tenure.

I'm not worried about it. Whoever wins that district will be a solid progressive Rep, but I think it's telling that Abu isn't talking about her opponent or issues specific to the district. She's running against Schumer & Pelosi.

Because they're the Democratic nominee. I do not care who anyone backs in primaries. We all want candidates who will stand up to Trump, but I think it's been proven that affordability is the winning message.
November 29, 2025 at 6:26 AM
This will probably annoy Malcolm, but Kat's ideological comrade Zohran Mamdani won by relentlessly focusing on affordability (as did a couple of his non-deological comrade Democrats). People want candidates who will stand up to Trump, but there's a lot more to it than a futile impeachment vote.
