If someone doesn't already know why studying the humanities is important, then that's the person who needs to study the humanities the most.
Are the humanities the only disciplines whose classes begin with modules speaking to the importance of studying the humanities? "Why study the humanities?" and "Why the humanities are important" must be cliches.

I agree that it’s high fucking time that we stopped acting like we need to grovel and constantly justify the existence of some of our most incredibly elemental and ancient human pursuits.

All i can say is that a an archaeologist (a) i wish my specialist knowledge a was LESS relevant to the present moment and (b) nothing breaks the spell of capitalist violence faster than taking just how long we existed without it and that there have always been alternatives
Indeed, I think a core part of our problem right now is that people with humanities degrees and humanities jobs have felt obligated to constantly *apologize* for it for a long time now.

Fortunately, history does not work as Hegseth seems to believe. It is never "settled" and the government cannot (at least for now!) impose its interpretation of events on the rest of us--especially an interpretation so at odds with the historical record. 6/
