A quick sidenote about this; one reason I stay on X is specifically because of exchanges like this, where @davidjbier.bsky.social and I got a prominent government official to make a claim so outrageous that it’s now ricocheting around the internet and actively undermining official PR campaigns.
Bovino, the man overseeing mass deportations, publicly declared that we must all have our papers on us, at all times, or we could be stopped, harassed, kidnapped, and detained, as they did with the man in this case, who is a US citizen.

We were done with this, thanks in large part to a dedicated campaign of MMR vaccinations and a government that advocated for those same vaccinations.
