Honestly this is why I finally feel like there's a place for me to be spiritual even as an agnostic at the Unitarian Universalist church. And they've got a pretty good track record of doing good work in my community too! (Not trying to convert; that's not really their thing, but happy to share)

If I had guaranteed income (and healthcare for my family) I'd probably still work a research or engineering job. But I wouldn't consume myself with it, and I could afford to choose something I enjoy or am passionate about instead of who's hiring or has decent pay & benefits.

I was furloughed for two weeks and literally could not stop doing stuff. Went to small businesses, walked and biked around my neighborhood, helped a friend wave election signs, did yardwork, watched anime, read, wrote, joined my church's sustainability team, and did crafts at my makerspace.

I skimmed it and mentioned a few other things but the basic summary is: digital phrenology.

Not only is this an incredibly horrifying infographic, the entire crux of the paper is 'use AI models to diagnose people's brains'. It's digital phrenology, and the fact that both the researchers and editors couldn't even check their first figure is horrifying.

It gets worse, the paper does not mention nonbinary, genderqueer, or transgender people at all but says their model has 'no gender bias' because it performed equally on male & female subjects.

This is like 100 items down on issues the paper has, but no other mention of gender in a paper on autism?

Now what's really gonna cook your noodle later is: was informed consent actually received? Or did an LLM simply generate an 'informed consent' statement based off of what they generally look like in similar academic papers?

I'm not an expert in the field but I can read scientific papers. The paper makes a big fuss about it being 'explainable AI' yet I honestly don't know what this model is doing except for using weighted neural networks and returning a score. Which feels like pretty basic machine learning.

This happened the week I was furloughed and had surgery, so my role had gone from provider and caregiver and stable person to helpless burden who can't regulate emotions because of anesthesia and meds. But after that (and therapy) I was able to open up to friends about it and that was nice.

Thank you for this thread. I had a pretty bad time a few weeks ago and felt RSD so hard. And my rational brain knows it's a thing and my friends and family don't hate me, they don't think I'm an annoying burden, they just got my own shit going on.

But my dumb RSD goblin was just SO LOUD

Could be! But Mayor Wu's track record has been generally good at avoiding the 'both sides' controversy that seems to plague some democrats

(I had to call my own congressional rep (MA-3 Trahan) to ask why the hell she signed her name to 'a resolution condemning the horrors of socialism' so... yea)
November 26, 2025 at 6:11 PM
Maybe not! I'd say it's a minor unforced error

But I'm also pretty sure this will be forgotten in a week, Wu and Zohran will have a fine working relationship, and it sounds a lot like the NYT trying to make hay out of nothing, or do their weird 'both sides are equally in chaos' schtick
November 26, 2025 at 1:49 PM
Anyways looking forward to more 'the far left is in disarray' articles from the NYT once baseball season starts up and they discover the two mayors have fundamental disagreements on the Yankees and just how much they suck
November 26, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Honestly this sounds like the NYT is just trying to force a 'the left is in disarray' narrative about what really comes down to a minor disagreement in approach, or Wu's response to a gotcha question of 'why don't you have an Oval Office hang like Zohran did?'

Note: RFK Jr is a ghoul and has forever destroyed any positive 'legacy' the Kennedy name had carried; sorry Kennedies, your legacy is now medical quackery, dead children & needless suffering. I know it might taint your vacation to Nantucket but you'll need to do more than writing 'I disagree' op eds
