"The Role of Tranches in Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) A tranche is a typical structure for secured debt products, like collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), combining assets like mortgages, bonds, and loans. An MBS consists of several mortgage pools with loans ranging from safe, low-interest ones to riskier, high-interest ones. Each specific mortgage pool has its own time to maturity, which factors into the risk and reward benefits. Therefore, tranches are made to divide up the different mortgage profiles into slices that have financial terms suitable for specific investors. For instance, a collateralized mortgage obligation (CMO) might include tranches with maturities of 1, 2, 5, and 20 years, each with different yields. If an investor wants to buy an MBS, they can choose the tranche type most applicable to their appetite for return and aversion to risk."

That time 9 years ago when Fate conspired to let me create this awesome photo. It was a mysterious plaster phallus next to our mailbox out front. I ran it through the "candy" filter on Prisma.
