Wanting stuff we don’t need and can’t use is pretty on-brand.
Venezuela does have the largest known oil deposits at estimated 330m barrels, but it’s extra-heavy crude oil. Great for diesel and jet fuel, but a limited market. To refine ‘dirty’ oil, it’s not profitable under $70 a barrel. Crude now at $60. To flood an already weak market would be a loss.

Unbelievably, the two lead stories in the NY Times today both be describe policies in Greenland that would particularly infuriate right-wingers and trigger their compulsion to “help”. I think I can guess what’s next on the “what else can we distract people with” agenda.
