Delighted that one of my Antarctic winter photos has won the 2025 Royal Society Photography Competition, Earth Science & Climatology category.

Captured during polar-night surveys of ocean conditions near Antarctic Peninsula glaciers.

There's absolutely no restrictions on what goes into an illegal landfill which means no control on what seeps out of them into water, soil + air. We've heard reports of substances like asbestos at illegal sites, others of waste burning + acrid smoke.

The Arctic has just set a new record low for this time of year.
As of 26 November 2025, sea ice extent is the lowest on record for the date based on OSI SAF sea ice climate data (1978–2024).

Arctic sea-ice extent just passed the border into the "record-low" domain.
Same for Barents, Baffin, Hudson, and Svalbard regions.
Second-lowest globally.

The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?

Yesterday it was time to put the garlic in the ground.
1. first find the planting tray and clear away the snow,
2. dig in the bokashi,
3. put in 50 garlic cloves, and
4. top it all off with a blanket of snow

The River Cherwell feeds into the River Thames. The River Thames fills up Farmoor reservoir. Farmoor reservoir supplies water to approx 600,000 people. Including my house.

As well as letting it kill our wildlife, we are drinking this stuff.
🚨 SHOCKING 🚨

A HUGE illegal waste dump has appeared between the A34 and River Cherwell, linked to organised crime.

Every rainfall risks toxins washing into the river.

We’re calling on the Environment Agency & Cherwell Council to act NOW.

Our rivers cannot wait. 👇👇
