“When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle. It is not enough, in a situation of trust in the commonwealth, that a man means well to his country.”

–Edmund Burke
At last election FF/FG were given a final chance to resolve the biggest issue facing Ireland. They are still failing. They will not get another chance.
Michael McDowell: Ministers need to stop blaming obstacles to delivery - and do something about them

Good analysis on the strategy and lack thereof of DTs tariff war. By taking his BS to the global stage, DT is exposing his amateur “Art of the Deal” nonsense to an opponent who simply won’t buy it. There is one side that is playing chess here and it ain’t the US ‘snakes and ladders’ MAGA crowd.

We’ve had the salutes and now the literature. What’s next??
Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not.

An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.

This is an important point that has not been highlighted enough over the last few weeks. Services are easier to substitute than relocating factories. The international backlash against US service companies is already quietly happening.
"By Trump’s logic, the US – which runs a large and persistent trade surplus in services with China, the European Union, and many other countries – must be engaging in unfair trade practices on a massive scale." (bit.ly/4cv6QYf)

Good article by Shane Coleman. Irelands government parties will not be given another chance to fix the biggest social and economic problem. Their start is far from encouraging and all indications are they are not taking it seriously. Lightweight minister put in charge. No clear policy.

Time is not something the government has the luxury of right now. There is a deep sense of pessimism in the construction sector about the future

Excellently summarised. The speed at which it has happened is astonishing. No going back
Pax Americana rested on three pillars: US military power & defensive alliances, US economic power & free trade, and US diplomatic clout and support for liberal democracy/the rule of law. All three have essentially evaporated in the space of 10 weeks. The American Century (1917-2025) is over.
