In sum, we gotta stop treating forgiveness like a transactional item. It’s unhealthy. Thank you for your time.

Frankenstein’s EVERYTHING was unforgivable. That’s his job to deal with, and in no way did he ever deal with it. I will die on this hill. The Creature didn’t have to tell Frankenstein he was forgiven for (the Creature) to experience peace. The Creature was peaceful as the Spirit of the Woods.

Forgiving someone, forgiveness, is not a thing you can require, request, or feel a need for. You cannot assign the act of forgiving a functional role in society or community. It’s an ephemeral internal thing.

For those who have been harmed by another, I think the Western world is hooked on the idea that the harmed person’s forgiveness of the transgressor is reconciliation, and that it’s necessary for community/society to live on. This isn’t true.

If I crave forgiveness, I am seeking someone else to relieve my feelings. It would be a relief, but it ties me for forever to someone I’ve harmed, and that person deserves their freedoms from me. I should not be on their to do list. “Once healed, I will forgive X”. Ignore me, I am my own problem.

I think the Western world is doing forgiveness wrong. When I have done unforgivable wrongs, it was my job to deal with my shame and continue in life, being a better person. I am not going to be set free by forgiveness. I am free, and I go forth actively doing better.

We just rewatched this, and it was a STUNNING piece of writers craft, performed with a spun glass beauty by the actors. It’s incredible.

(del Toro says the blue, white, and gold is the palette of the beginning and end of the story, and you DO find more control in the beginning/end of things)

I don’t have the red and green figured out yet, but I’m on the case!

When Victor is shown beating the Monster, he’s in a voluminous silky emerald green robe that is lined in red, possibly furthering the narrative that his performance of the green theme is a farce, it’s the red theme, always the red theme with him.

But it’s not a signifier of female creation. In the period of Victor’s Story, red is his obsession. Obsessed with his mother, obsessed with resurrecting dead tissue (because he wasn’t creating life or defying death). Red angel. Anything splashed in red is a Victor obsession.
