Our upcoming game The Hearth and Harbour is fully 2D, but with some neat tricks we’ve made it look 3D. Ethan, our environment artist, did this with a special type of texture called a Normal Map. (Thread! 1/7)

Traditionally drawn art card artwork - drawn with black liners, shaded with a hint of grey, showing tints of colour and sometimes golden accents. Aster in a sea of a million small dandelions; the flowers are surrounding the character and partially seem to overlap or consume the frame, allowing to fade slowly inot them. The character is in full clothing, showing the armour pieces, and clutches the weapon with both hands in front of the chest. Yet, the rest of the pose seems relaxed, mirrored by the smile on Aster's lips and the half closed eyes darting down carefully. Aster does have several glowing scars, one of them is a long scar crowssing the left eye and going down. The scars are drawn in gold, instead of the glowing white, while the longer one is going through the lines and character, sparing the still visible eye, and thus "parting" the artwork into two sides. Said gold is also used for the flowers, Aster's favourites, and sme few accents on the clothing.

For generations people “cut off” parents by moving away and mailing them a card once a year. Travel and long distance phone calls were expensive; distance effectively cut people off w/o being so explicit.

The difference now is that communication is cheap so cutting them off requires being explicit.

There's no hard data, so it's impossible to know for sure, but I suspect the number of adult children cutting off their parents isn't significantly higher than it used to be, and what's actually new is that the children are now explaining it in therapy terms rather than simply ceasing contact.
