One memorable wad had an episode entirely made of the shareware maps with the floor/roof heights changed, because people didn't figure out how to make a BSP tool and compile levels right away.

I can't remember if we got Walnut Creek disks in shops around here but I definitely bought shit like this, much of which was even on individual floppies because CD-ROM was still new and fancy.

I haven't dug into the evolved edition yet but I really like the mechanics of this system, and the way the rules encourage the players to pitch in on the narrative a bit more instead of leaving everything to the GM.
