The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Feb 13 1913: After the Feb 7 attack on miners at Paint Creek, Mother Jones & 2 miners were chosen to deliver a petition to remove state troops in the area to the governor. Instead, she was arrested & placed under house arrest. Under public pressure the new governor released her in May. #Appalachia

In 1953 a Navy officer working on the Manhattan Project had a breakdown and was confined in a secret psych ward—an apartment modified with bars and alarms. He threatened to reveal atomic secrets but never did. His odd late-night piano playing echoed through Oak Ridge until he recovered. #Appalachia
