I’m really not sure I belong on Bluesky at all. In an effort to curate my timeline and reduce opportunities for doomscrolling and being triggered by news, I’m muting and blocking almost as many accounts as I’m following. I don’t think this experiment is working for me.

I feel like I’m committing some terrible sin by muting and blocking accounts of prominent journalists and news outlets, but I really need less news in my feed and it seems like reposting news content (or commentary) is one of the most common things people do here on Bluesky. AITA?

I'm annoyed when people say, "But conspiracy theorists sometimes get it right." No, they don't. They never have. A conspiracy theory is a delusional fantasy that behaves totally differently than epistemology in the real world. It's not about trusting institutions or narratives, it's about evidence.

I’m glad people are out there pursuing ICE, following their cars, yelling at them and blocking them. I really am. I just can’t watch another one of those videos though.

Not sure why I should care about the Dilbert guy. The strip was never funny and I didn't pay attention to his other ridiculous shenanigans. He just never existed in my world.

Him being a crank *is* the point. He didn’t invent the crap he was peddling, but he was certainly responsible for injecting its poison into the heads of a new generation. Most people also don’t know that his editor/collaborator was a literal Nazi and “ancient aliens” ideas are deeply racist.
RIP Erich von Däniken, whose CHARIOTS OF THE GODS (1968) was literally on every bookshelf in 1970s. All the commentary about him being a crank misses the point. It was a time when UFOs, ghosts, the Bermuda Triangle & other occult phenomena where mainstream preoccupations & he was at the centre of it
