Three board games designed by @amabel.bsky.social and published by @hollandspiele.bsky.social: the now OOP 6-player only Westphalia, another Dual Gauge expansion, and the small trick-taking card game Hartfield. Can’t wait to dig in. #boardgames

Initiations is a story about Kazon coming of age rites. I get the feeling that the Kazon were supposed to be a major recurring force in the show, like Romulans or Klingons but in the Delta Quadrant. Instead, they're appearing rarely enough that I need to remind myself who they are. Chakotay has to…

I want to agree to this in principle, but there’s also a Phil Eklund way to do it incorrectly. Eklund would regularly rename mechanics without offering context, assuming that the player would have the same knowledge and instincts as he did. It resulted in a rulebook that sounded like a muddled code.
there is almost no feedback I will reflexively ignore as a game developer but “you shouldn’t name something X because people don’t know that word” is one of them. oh no! You might learn a new word! God forbid you take away a piece of knowledge from a game that’s not a brand of gun or some shit lol

This Target novelization follows the naming convention of all Hartnell stories, that the title of the story is the title of the first episode, just like with the famous stories The Roof of the World, The Temple of Evil, Temple of Secrets, War of God, and A Holiday for the Doctor.

#1 The War Games (1969)

This is it: the greatest story ever made for Doctor Who. It’s a proper epic, lasting ten episodes, with progressive mysteries, revelations, and crises to be resolved. And at the end of it, it cannot be resolved. This is the conundrum too big for the Doctor to overcome. This…

#2 The Time Meddler (1965)

The show to this point had been a solid mix of pure historical stories and sci-fi stories, often alternating between the two. This story broke the mold. It appears for several minutes to be another historical story, set weeks before the Norman conquest, amid regular…

Learning Curve is our first season finale for this show, and the stakes could not be lower. Boot camp for Maquis that don't care about the rules? Ship randomly shutting down due to cheese mold? Tuvok apparently having decades of teaching experience and having no idea how to teach? What a…

Heroes and Demons is one of those goofy holodeck stories that isn't about character development through immersion but somehow is acting as a conduit between fantasy and reality. Here, we have the story of Beowulf, with Grendel representing the sentient energy that Voyager stole from a protostar…

#3 The Tomb of the Cybermen (1967)
