Impossible to look at this and not think - yep - that's exactly what cinema is. Cruel news to wake up to and a terrible loss.

As a non-smoker and non-drinker Blue Moon really made me wanna reconsider being such a square, maybe we’re all meant to share quips in bars talking about art all night

Great long-read. Made me feel that, broadly, society had been moving in the same direction until recently, just at different paces. Now, people are having to choose what they believe in: the law or the dignity of our friends, family and neighbours.

Absolutely devastating. Great match, the ending worked - the ‘that’s all I’ve got’ smile - but the send-off was what it was all about. I watched his debut episode 23 years ago, I remember it so clearly, Sky1 on a Saturday morning. 11 years old with my dad. 34 now, partner asleep beside me.
Expecting John Cena’s retirement match here to have the same effect as the In Memory part of the Oscars. One of the good ones, a real-life superhero, a parasocial bestie for 20+ years - there’s literally no one else like him.

Worried I respect The Mastermind more than I enjoy it! Typically slow stuff but I usually feel Reichardt’s quiet scenes are filled with something profound. Felt myself wanting this one to get a move on more often than not.

My partner provided a public service tonight by sitting me down and making me watch Chicago. Absolutely no one looks better on screen than Richard Gere.

The Taylor Swift doc doing a great job reminding us how singular she is after her wobbliest record. Happy to pretend Showgirl never happened, it’s all good.

Feelings towards Scottish independence these days are mostly ‘sure! why not!’
New Scottish Independence poll, Ipsos 27 Nov - 3 Dec (changes vs 12-18 Jun):

Yes ~ 47% (+1)
No ~ 43% (nc)
Don't Know ~ 9% (-1)

Excluding Don't Knows (/ vs 2014):
Yes ~ 52% (nc / +7)
No ~ 48% (nc / -7)

Spent a day off work watching Daisies, maybe the most day-free-from-work film of all time.

I suppose the dictators were never going to be satisfied with ruining just one group of people's lives.
As the trans community have known for a while now - the definition of activist is someone who dares to state they exist

Not every film can have the cultural impact of Annette
Seeing posts about how the Avatar movies have "no cultural impact" is kind of funny. I mean, I personally haven't forgotten about the weird giant blue people planet movie.

BBC News really pushed the possibility of Christy landing a Golden Globe nom, a film last in the news because about seven people went to see it

I'm not gonna come down on either side of whether or not S&S should stick to UK release dates. But because they don't enforce it themselves, some films on the quoted list were featured more prominently on last year's: www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-so...
