And how do we get there? First, stop working with commercial publishers to reform the system. We have had decades of failed attempts at reform in which the only constancy is publishers’ profits. We cannot continually try to reform a broken system.

My mom was oldest of 13, and utterly unapologetic about having *one.*

And here's the answer to the question ....

The Dems who are caving are doing so not because their base wants them to,

not because the voters want them to,

not because the fed workers and SNAP recipients want them to…

they are caving because their DONORS want them to.

And that’s really all that ever matters to the corrupt

This was something really striking to me while living/traveling in the former Soviet Union in the early 2010s: smiling and greeting customers, making them feel comfortable or special, was *no one's* expectation of retail workers and cashiers. A deeply different idea of what "customer service" is.

--> Some have outright rejected it and some have just stayed silent (including Cornell) but none have joined it.

--> None of the Ivies have signed on to the "compact" that would supposedly give them preferred status for research funding.

Please check your facts! The compact and these settlements are two different issues. Brown, Penn, Columbia, UCLA, and Cornell (and others?) have all announced "settlements" with the federal government in order to end the so-called civil rights complaints and restore research funding. -->

OK, I see. Thanks for explaining. Whenever I have signed up for paid podcast subscriptions, I am able to access them via Pocket Casts. I agree it sucks that are some podcasters only make theirs available ONLY through Apple or Spotify. It's not necessary -- there is other tech they/we can access.

Ah, just saw that you had problems with subscriptions--does that mean premium feeds that you pay for/subscribe to? I listen to premium feeds on Pocket Casts. A tiny bit of fiddling to use the QR code that the podcaster offers to hook up the app to the premium feed. Apologies if that's not yr issue.

Have you tried PocketCasts? That what I use on my iphone, but it's also available for Android. I've never used Spotify or Apple Podcasts. PocketCasts is great. I've also used Overcast in the past, but it's been a while.

Allowing AI on a course supposedly training students how to think is as useful as allowing mobility scooters on an exercise run. And the result for the long-term welfare of the participants will be much the same.
