I may suggest relying on data instead of your feelings. Your knowledge of Switzerland for instance is off the mark. 1- Their main income is manufacturing and engineering services. Banking is less than 10%. 2- For income distribution look at the chart.

You said tax havens don’t generate wealth. So how come Switzerland, who is a tax haven according to you, created a per capita wealth of £540k and a per capita GDP of £80K then? They are 80% richer than us…

That is the problem. People are not earning enough to help running the country. Poor people = poor country! Chancellors must aim to help people to earn more, not to only help people to survive.

“A single person earning £40,000 may be financially comfortable, whereas a family with children earning the same amount might struggle.” As middle class is often caricatured as 3 person + dog, I believe £100K earners are still within middle class range.

So too is going part-time or working fewer hours. If more Henrys & Henriettas have to follow the latter route in future, that could undermine UK productivity & lengthen NHS waiting lists as more doctors and consultants fall into the trap.

FT had reported on how a parent with 2 children in London whose pay went a pound over the £100K threshold would need to earn more than £149K to compensate for the value of lost childcare support. Saving into a pension is a tax-efficient work around this unfair state of affairs.
