You can tell it's New Year season because everyone on the bus is reading a paperback instead of staring at their phone

This is one of those weird mornings where you wake up on the west coast and find out that there's a Whole Thing

honestly this is basically the point I've been trying to make since I got in a fight with that east coast based other intern in grad school
i know i'm beating a dead horse but it doesn't take an advanced degree in hydrogeolgy to understand that water usage for a data center in phoenix might be a slightly different issue in scale and impact than it is for one on the banks of lake michigan so perhaps pooh poohing the issue is dumb af

I'm only at the halfway point but this is basically a Minecraft version of @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social's A Paradise Built In Hell
We ended up accidentally watching this whole video yesterday, and against all odds, it ended up being one of the greatest pieces of cinema I've ever experienced:

I sometimes think about how many cigarette equivalents I smoked as a young kid while in movie theatres watching the epic movies of my childhood.

It was “normal.”

How many things do we consider normal today that we’ll one day (hopefully soon) recognize as completely insane?

Shout out to my new induction stove which immediately recognized that I'd turned the wrong burner on at full blast and shut it down rather than burning down the house #electrifyeverything

now do cars
E-bikes are a growing danger on U.S. streets. In one California town, a 15-year-old's shocking crash was the "light switch" moment that led officials to respond. nyti.ms/4pKAJcp

When I teach students organizing I teach them that every tactic must both 1) move you closer to your goal, and 2) build up your organization for the long term. Dem senators are doing neither.

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

I was so excited to be able to easily haul a 7x9 rug home on my small cargo bike last weekend that I forgot to take a picture for @americanfietser.bsky.social 😮‍💨
I want to make a personal request to those of you who use a bike for transportation purposes to start taking more photos and posting them.

You can do so much by showing even the most mundane errands with a bike to educate and inspire others. They're often more effective than words. 📸
