one perk of using a password manager is that when you share a password with a normal person you look like an absolute moon-howler

Best part of my birthday thus far was frosting these vegan cupcakes with my teen.

I'm thrilled the polar vortex left in time for me to enjoy the warm weather!

With Discord threatening to require ID, is there an existing blog post comparing various competitor services and how they might serve a community of normies?

My own incomplete version:
- Slack: easiest to use, but you lose messages after 90 days. Paid plan is prohibitively expensive.
- Matrix […]

Somewhat related, I've started sometimes including Claude's PLAN.md for features in the pull request. The downside is it clutters the repo and becomes less relevant over time.

I should probably share the initial prompt instead, since that's where I have invested […]

We are at the stage of winter in #annarbor #michigan where the snow next to the sidewalk has been piled so high that my dog can't get onto it to poop. She knows not to poop on the sidewalk but the best she can do is poop in someone's driveway on the street side of the sidewalk. At least it's […]

Updated my post to add a section with commentary on the glaring detail I glossed over in my first published version: $1,000/engineer/day in token spends, really? https://simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/7/software-factory/#wait-1-000-day-per-engineer-

Means Morning News is my favorite news source generally but today's episode was especially good. If you didn't like this one it's not for you.

Worker-owned, available on video and podcast for free (though I subscribe to support the project).

Idea for web app: you give it your SolarEdge (or other inverter company's) API key and inputs about how much your rooftop #solar installation cost. It pulls your generation data and presents a report showing your lifetime generation and your payback/ return on investment.

Make it open source so […]

How many chicken wings will be eaten on the weekend of the Super Bowl?

... Make your guess ...

1,450,000,000 wings. That's >700 million chickens killed or two dead chickens for every American.

I struggle to wrap my head around that many dead birds.

Source is an industry press release from […]

I played "Dragostea tin dei" (the Numa Numa song) for my teen. She said wait, i know this tune from both David Guetta ("I don't want to wait") *and* Rihanna ("Live your life")??

Good observation considering that (I think) they are sampling different parts of the original.

My beginner rec league hockey team shared birth years in the locker room tonight after the game. The oldest was born in 1981. The youngest is half as young, born in 2003.

It's a nice multigenerational vibe, with the youngsters going out together afterward and the old timers like me going back […]

Polar vortex status: I briefly microwaved an apple today. It had been in the fridge and I didn't want more cold in me.

It'll reach 20 degrees on Sunday!

I wonder if any people who joined the #forkiverse would be interested in Bookwyrm, the Fediverse competitor to Goodreads. You can follow an account there from Mastodon. Or have an account both places and boost a Bookwyrm post here. Lots of folks on my Mastodon server also use Bookwyrm […]

My seven year old loves the imaginative aspect of D&D and is always asking family members to play with him. No dice, no table needed, he'll just narrate a story and ask what you do.

Thoughts on how he could scratch this itch when no one is available to play with him? Computer game (text […]

Had a nice talk with friends who are parents of a teen & tween the same ages as mine. Got new ideas for chores to assign, our most recent shuffling hasn't worked out.

Logistics of having teen cook a meal have been too tricky but they could sure do their own laundry!

Veganism, a thread 🧵:
