Behold! It's me, talking about my upcoming picture book, Ellis on Guard, illustrated by the immensely talented Nandita Ratan! It's not out til February, but my publisher, @secondstory.bsky.social, sent me an ARC, so I decided to show it off a bit, cause I'm SO EXCITED about this character. 1/3
Okay I just found out that we don’t French tuck anymore and I need a Gen Z to tell me what I’m supposed to do aa a short human who loves oversized tees. Stay untucked and walk around like my legs are only a foot long?

Do not do this. The whole point of presents is to think about your loved one. If you don’t know what to get me, just tell me you weren’t sure what to get me, and like, give me a hug or something.

The 18yo and I were just hanging out in the kitchen and we heard a noise just outside the back door FOUR TIMES, and it sounded like a very small voice saying “Mama.” We have secured the perimeter and I’m holding onto a giant hunk of labradorite for dear life, but WHAT THE HECK.

One assignment! 🥳
I have three assignments left in my entire degree. A few months of practicum still… but just three assignments. If you’ve ever thought about going back to school and decided against it because of your age, give it some more thought. I wasn’t sure how I’d pull it off—but I’m almost there.

Careful, editor pals. Later on in the thread, she also mentions an incident where a client did a full credit card chargeback after the work was complete.
Just saw somebody asking for referrals for editors who accept 50% upfront and 50% at the end so that if they're not happy they can get a "refund of half" by . . . not paying. Just in case you're wondering why I don't take CCs and why several editors are moving toward a different payment structure. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I am FASCINATED by this development. I’ve been saying for months that I think the sheer inundation of AI is going to start pushing people back towards analog/tactile things, and I wonder if this is an example of that.
I tell you what, if you or someone you know is looking to go into a skilled trade, consider watchmaking. I just dropped a watch off at Ben bridge and they’re scheduled 3 months out. “Everybody’s interested in watches now. Horology school students are getting job offers before they even graduate.”

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

So how well did those Zoom workouts work for everyone else over COVID hmmm? Almost as good as the workout videos we had before that?

All that scaling, wowweeeee *sarcasm font*
“‘AI has an incredible role to play in what we’re doing because AI can help us democratize and scale coaching,’ Huffington responded.” 💀

I gotta take my hat off to seasoned teachers right now—just subbing for high school PhysEd and while it was SUPER fun, it was also SUPER exhausting. 💤

Anyone have an extra ticket for Sunday Hal-Con?

Thanks for putting up with the biggest post dump ever. Going back to school has been amazing, and I am so thrilled to be doing work that I love, but it doesn't leave a whole lot of time for updating the ol social feeds. Gonna try and see what everyone else is up to on this fine and spooky evening.

I also wrote this piece recently. This is a special one for me--Labour Day Picnic is the best community space we have in my area. Apologies for the paywall. atlanticbusinessmagazine.ca/article/labo...

The kids at the door keep jump-scaring me every time I sit back down to type something.

Sorry, but this is how I have to do Bluesky now--you're gonna get all my news at once. Maybe I should start a newsletter? Anyways! I also have a piece in Write Magazine (The Writers Union of Canada) about how writing their Traditional Publishing How-To Guide was the hardest thing I've ever written.

Happy Halloween!! (Thanks for supplying the comics, @strangeadventures.bsky.social)

PS: It's trickier to promote now that I'm only on Bluesky. If anyone is willing to share the post below on Twitter or Instagram, I'd be super grateful. Thank you!!

MSVU's part-time faculty (CUPE Local 3912) is beginning a strike tomorrow at noon. I'm fortunate to have/have had many wonderful part-time instructors, and I hope they get what they need. If you're driving by the Mount, send a (friendly) honk or two their way. I'll be walking with them when I can.

Hope you're all doing okay! I've had to take a break because Bluesky was simply Too Much for my anxiety over the summer, and I'm practicing Healthy Boundaries For My Poor Inundated Brain.

Speaking of anxiety (what a segue!) my forthcoming picture book, Ellis on Guard 1/3 @secondstory.bsky.social

Hey #teachers, there was someone on here compiling a list of research links on the impact of AI on education. I thought I saved it, but can't find it now. Anyone know who that was?
