Par AFP Par Erwan LUCAS © 2025 AFP Les géants du numérique américains Nvidia et Microsoft ont annoncé mardi qu'ils vont investir respectivement 10 milliards et 5 milliards de dollars dans la start-up spécialisée dans l'intelligence artificielle (IA) Anthropic, connue pour son outil d'IA générative Claude. Ces nouveaux investissements, annoncés dans un communiqué commun, devraient porter la valorisation d'Anthropic à 350 milliards de dollars, selon des sources proches citées par la chaîne américaine CNBC. Son concurrent OpenAI a récemment vu sa valorisation atteindre 500 milliards de dollars. La jeune entreprise s'est de son côté engagée à acheter pour 30 milliards de dollars de capacités auprès d'Azure, la plateforme d'informatique dématérialisée ("cloud") de Microsoft, et mettra Claude à disposition des "clients entreprise d'Azure, avec un choix de modèles étendu et de nouvelles capacités", selon le communiqué des trois entreprises. Cette annonce n'a cependant pas particulièrement séduit les marchés, les titres Nvidia et Microsoft reculant respectivement de 2,22% et 2,38% à la Bourse de New York vers 20H50 GMT, dans un marché globalement à la baisse alors que les craintes d'une possible bulle spéculative autour de l'IA montent chez les investisseurs. Le rapprochement entre les trois entreprises prévoit par ailleurs une collaboration en terme de conception et ingénierie qui doit permettre d'"optimiser les modèles d'Anthropic pour en obtenir la meilleure performance et efficacité". "Nous allons petit à petit devenir les clients les uns des autres. Nous allons utiliser les modèles d'Anthropic, ils vont utiliser notre infrastructure et nous irons sur les marchés ensemble pour aider nos clients à profiter pleinement de la valeur créée par l'IA", a déclaré, dans une vidéo commune, le PDG de Microsoft, Satya Nadella. "C'est la première fois que nous avons un partenariat d'importance avec Anthropic pour accélérer le développement de Claude", a de son côté signalé le patron de Nvidia, Jensen Huang, "cet accord entre nos trois entreprises permettra d'apporter l'IA et le cloud à chaque entreprise, chaque industrie dans le monde". Craintes de bulle L'annonce de ce partenariat entre les trois entreprises intervient alors qu'un autre géant du numérique, Google, a annoncé le même jour la dernière version de son outil IA, Gemini 3, qui doit notamment permettre de générer de manière autonome des projets d'écriture d'application à partir de consignes données en langage courant, et qui viendrait ainsi en concurrence de Claude. Egalement basée en Californie, Anthropic a été fondée en 2021 par des anciens d'OpenAI et se présente comme développant une IA qui se veut plus sûre. Comme sa concurrente, elle profite des énormes investissements réalisés par les géants du numérique, Microsoft et Nvidia en tête. Mais Anthropic comme OpenAI se voient également concurrencées par certains, à l'image de Google donc mais également d'Amazon, de Meta, ou plus récemment de xAI, lancée par Elon Musk. Depuis le lancement de ChatGPT il y a bientôt trois ans, le secteur a dépensé des dizaines de milliards de dollars pour accélérer le développement et l'adoption de l'IA. Ces annonces interviennent alors que les marchés s'inquiètent des valorisations faramineuses du secteur du numérique, mais aussi des sommes importantes engagées, alors que le retour sur investissement semble être encore loin et le coût de développement de chaque nouvelle version augmente en produisant des innovations qui sont moins importantes. Depuis son plus haut fin octobre, le titre Nvidia, première valorisation au monde, a perdu plus de 12% de sa valeur et les marchés attendent la publication de ses résultats, attendus mercredi. Bien que la croissance des investissements dans l'IA ait été "un moment extraordinaire", il existe une certaine "irrationalité" dans l'actuelle frénésie qui s'en est emparée, a reconnu lundi Sundar Pichai, le patron d'Alphabet, maison mère de Google. Autre difficulté qui se présente, la consommation d'énergie nécessaire pour faire tourner les serveurs de l'IA ne cesse d'augmenter, pour représenter 1,5% de la consommation mondiale d'électricité selon l'Agence internationale de l'énergie (AIE). Cette voracité énergétique crée parfois des tensions sur les réseaux locaux, une contrainte que les géants du secteur tentent de contourner en signant des accords pour le développement de nouvelles sources d'énergie dédiées.
