I did this recently with a minor character who seemed a bit flat - I fell down a rabbit hole! I think this is the best/most fun/rewarding part of the writing process.

Completely agree with this last point. The front pages of the newspapers have effectively been saying "Us billionaires are determined to bring down the BBC". The Beeb should be able to point this out.

I cheated by convincing Thing 2 that 'bunchie plaits' was the ultimate hairstyle - two side bunches that you then plait. Much easier than French plaits! Mind you Thing 2 decided that she didn't like ballet because she had to have neat hair for it so the bar wasn't very high! 😆

They were bemused when I thanked them profusely for taking time out when they were travelling themselves (and apologised for not being able to speak German), to them it was just something you automatically do. I've helped lots of people on public transport since. 🙂
