I know the Brewers trading their best starter only making $8 million coming off a 97-win season is going to be a narrative here; it's not the reason the Brewers dealt him. The Brewers feel they gain plus value trading a guy with a year left. You can argue with the process, but it ain't a $$ thing.

I hate to be a dick about this but
(1) He wasn’t healthy in 2025.
(2) He said for months as he was rehabbing in the minors that his velocity would come back when he got on a major league mound. It never did.
Great dude, love him, etc. Taking the QO means he knows he’s cooked.

One thing Brandon Woodruff was adamant about all in conversations all year is 2025 was about being healthy and 2026 would be about getting back to his old self in terms of velocity and stuff.
If so, he's a top-of-rotation guy. But you can see why the risk may have hampered his FA market.

Woodruff is by all accounts a tremendous dude so I hope he gets the contract he's looking for, but I'm not sure what kind of market is going to exist for a 33 year old with a dead arm.
