ChatGPT's 5.1 that just came out is glitchy. It now ends a lot of replies with a statement it wants me to type to tell it how to proceed, but more than once I typed exactly what it asked for and then it gets all confused what I meant because I wasn't precise enough with the request.

NEW: Welcome to the Great AI Bubble. Yes, it’s here. And yes, it’s going to burst.

It’s also got way more in common with the Epstein scandal than you really want to know.

Latest Windows 11 on a probook has a phantom chime. All audio muted, all notificiations disabled, all system sounds turned off.

Every couple minutes it just plays.

Quick search shows others have experienced this but there is no clear fix. Best I can describe the chime is a soft echoey space sound

This right here. While toying with ChatGPT for a personal project, I literally have to keep telling it to stop guessing, and refeed it the same code for review from earlier in the chat. Not only does it reference old designs, sometimes it hallucinates future designs. You can't just trust it.
engineers are basically professional understanders of complex systems. When someone I respect sends a PR I trust that it reflects a reasonably complete model of the system in their head. AI doesn't have it, it has an educated guess with varying levels of plausibility.

Is it just me or are the valuations of these companies just unreasonably high
Sources: Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab is in early talks to raise a new round of funding at a roughly $50B valuation, potentially rising to $55B-$60B (Bloomberg)

Why do I keep seeing "if not involved in", it's pretty well established he was 100% involved in
New Epstein emails "seem to show Trump understood who Epstein was, how he and Maxwell were acting, and the kinds of crimes they were committing. He was adjacent to, if not involved in, those crimes."

On the pod Nicole Hemmer is brilliant on bigger Epstein-MAGA story:

Seeing a lot of job postings for Anthropic lately, and notice they're in Syracuse. Why is Anthropic in Syracuse? I never considered that city (or state in general) to be thriving in the tech sector.

The .com bubble and housing bubble had a demon baby
This is insane. This is *literally* doing the same mechanics of the housing crisis and 2008 recession but to create debt to finance construction of AI data centers

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Early on I had to give ChatGPT some hard rules when generating code for me. One of the most important is that it generates code only in ASCII. It *loves* em dashes, little unicode arrows, bullet points etc.

It tends to slip back after awhile so I have to keep reminding it.

A solar fence is actually an amazing idea, if you're facing a sunset or sunrise you get maxium power during times your roof solar is minimized. Obviously only useful in certain land situations.
Solar’s price drop is astonishing: panels are now 98% cheaper than when I first analyzed them in 2004.

Today, building a fence with solar can be cheaper than using wood.
