I have yet to hear a solid case for how our space adventurism benefits ordinary Americans who pay for it. "Spin-off technologies" seems the best attempt, but the one ironclad law of 21st-c. society/economics/politics is "more technology makes everything worse". Why is this worth blood & treasure?
This is a huge mission with a lot of risk. Artemis III is the actual Moon landing, and I'm afraid they will rush the lander into operation prematurely because Orange Shitgibbon wants it done during his term. And if anything goes wrong, he will blame everyone but himself.

I see this framed a lot as a cultural difference between workers and management, or a result of different kinds of training and exposure to the technology, but what if it's just telling us which kinds of jobs are more automatable?

Many of the brightest, most personable, most promising students I had here in MN were young Somali women. My work BFF at my new library branch is a Somali woman. There isn't a problem in this state that couldn't be fixed by firing all the men and replacing them with Somali women.
So far, I am only seeing TPM, Mediaite, and Daily Beast focusing on this.

We live in a world where the president calling an ethnic group "very low IQ" and "bad for our country" while insisting they "ought to get the hell out of here" barely makes headlines. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-m...

Fun fact: Before the Revolution, the land that would later become Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, & Eastern Minnesota was not an unorganized territory (as Congress would later have it), but had already been designated part of Canada (a separate Crown colony) in the Quebec Act of 1774.

Тоже я в Миннеаполисе.
К сожалению, на улице всё ещё морозная зима со снегом, сегодня была дома и ни о чем не жалею, мне физически плохо от мысли, что в -10 нужно выходить на улицу, но завтра придется…

If you want to know how we got here, it's because intelligent, worldly people listened to a self-aggrandizing megalomaniac say "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody", & believed he was "not capable of ordering ICE agents to shoot people" because America is *special*.
"Until Minneapolis, I would have told you that as bad as Trump is, he’s not capable of ordering ICE agents to shoot people...at random, and that as bad as ICE is, they’d refuse such orders. Now I no longer believe either of those things."

We’re Nearing the Day When ICE Thugs Just Open Fire on Crowds
The United States is now closer to Assad’s Syria than to anything we recognize as fitting within the understood norms of American history.

Also, a friendly reminder that millions of Americans don't have passports because:

1) they can't afford the time and processing charges to get one, OR

2) they don't like travelling and have simply never needed one, OR

3) the current government refuses to issue them one (yours truly).
I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

Probably a bunch of bickering over how appropriative of one another Judaism and Christianity are, plus a lot of handwringing over the sudden proliferation of "Аляска наша!" hats.

(On top of all the usual stupid trans discourse, of course.)
if your current project became the Next Big Thing, what would the discourse about it be like?

The regime's prohibitions on discussing “race or gender ideology, or topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity” have at last shut up that notorious wokescold... Plato.
The works of Plato are now being banned at schools in the United States.

Tell me again how censorship is a European problem? 🤔
