Historical analogies are arguments. So when someone makes an analogy between today and the Holocaust, or today and anything, think about they are really arguing for. What is the analogy trying to get you to do?

Perry: When is it OK to compare aspects of what’s happening in Minnesota to Nazi Germany?
Gov. Tim Walz has made some such analogies in relation to ICE and has been criticized for it, David M. Perry writes.

What the absolute hell...?!
A Kent County Council spokesperson confirmed to me today that they will work with Reform's DOGE team of auditors who arrived at County Hall yesterday.

"We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively and professionally with the new administration here at KCC, including the DOGE team."

This looks very interesting...
I follow the delineation of open space into codified "public space" as a process of enclosure since the 18th century, and how protest was and still is a form of commoning as resistance.

Chapter titles:

Commons
Waste
Verges
Railings
Pavements
Barricades
No ball games
Reclaim the Streets
It exists! My new book is out later this year with Reaktion Books.
If you are famous and/or a public intellectual and want to review it/provide a pull quote, DM.

History was full of the bones of good men who'd followed bad orders in the hope that they could soften the blow. Oh, yes, there were worse things they could do, but most of them began right where they started following bad orders.

I used to work for an elected official as the person who answered their emails. I can tell you from personal experience, if even twenty or thirty people all call an official in a day, they start panicking. This stuff does help.
I know you hate this advice. I know you hear it all the time, but for gods sake you need to be calling your congressperson. Now. Today.

If you have a GOP representative, you need to call and ask if they approve of stripping congress of its constitutional authority. If they like being powerless.

Meet Louise of Prussia. Politician, diplomat and beloved queen and wife. Rode into battle while pregnant. One of my heroes.

Famously described by Napoleon famously as "the only real man in Prussia"

Gonna ask you to think a bit about that in a sec, but first you need to know about her life. /1 🧵

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

This is absolutely astounding! The lifts are *insane* and yet there is so much almost-stillness. By crikey.
YouTube has decided to show me lots of tangos from very old films. This one - the Cobra Tango - is simply astonishing. Hang in there for two utterly breathtaking lifts at about 3:00 and about 3:30.
