It’s been a great start to the year out canvsssing with Castle and West Chesterton! It’s game in for the local elections in May. The Liberal Democrats will be offering a bold and positive vision for our city, a clear alternative to Labour’s cuts at the Guildhall and in Westminster.

A glossy A3 leaflet arrives from Arbury Liberal Democrats, with lots of local content promoting Fionna Tod, who is clearly their candidate for the May elections. Arbury has been a safe seat for Labour for many years, but perhaps the Lib Dems are feeling optimistic this year.

This week, the govt wrote to Cambridge City Council, giving Labour the option to cancel May's local elections. I believe they should go ahead. Before 15th Jan, please write to the Labour Councillors here - democracy.cambridge.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.… & tell them democracy delayed is democracy denied.

The best way to understand what is actually “driving the small boats” is “if something carried a one in a 100 risk of death, would you do it it it gave you ten more years of healthy life?”
Nigel Farage thinks that young people don’t deserve the minimum wage. It’s just another example of how out of touch he is! Young people face such a high cost of living, especially with the cost of renting. Young people deserve to be paid well, we will not be exploited by Reform’s Fascist City Banker

Some honesty is needed about what the flags being put up around England are about. The march in London this weekend with known fascists like Tommy Robinson show that it’s not about patriotism, it’s about exclusion, hatred, and racism. That’s not what Britain is about.

Like Alex, I really like the idea of unitary authorities. However, as we go through the process it’s increasingly clear that the Labour Government haven’t put enough thought into it. It feels like it’s being rushed through for supposed cost savings, not to make local government work the best it can.
I used to really support the idea of unitary councils but I I'm becoming more and more worried about LGR. It's being pushed solely for cost cutting, giving little to no thought as to how to improve services for residents. All it seems to be achieving is earning some consultants a lot of money!
