The open secret that Thomas King is not Indigenous at all is finally verified, and honestly it's a relief. Having him just confess this instead of going out kicking and screaming like so many before him causes a LOT less harm to Indigenous communities.

It still sucks though.

I wrote a book about US media’s complicity in the Gaza genocide. It's available for pre-order. It’s a data-driven and, I hope, thorough account of how center-left media sold the American public on mass death in Gaza.

I think the shortest version of why LLMs are an anti education technology is that education is fundamentally about making shared context to understand ourselves, each other, and the world

And by design LLMs destroy shared context

I accidentally took the kids to the (brilliant and gorgeous!) Hong Kong anime, Another World. I had to take them out after beheadings, backs whipped raw, bodies thrown into fires, etc.

The 9 year old was shook.

The 6 year old: “Really? I was okay with it…”

Question for scholars:

I have three citations in a row. Two are from a compendium from 1885, and one (the middle one) is from a source collection from 1981. I've discovered ALL of the sources I quote are included in the 1885 book. Do I switch them all over, or cite based on where I found them?

I have not wanted to believe this for the 30 min since announced. Alice Wong was at the top of a very short list of ppl who truly made the world a better place; a fierce oracle who inspired, rallied, personally supported in dark moments +spoke up for so many of us in the disabled community.
💔 RIP
I’m heartsick to hear that the incomparable Alice Wong has passed. Her loss will be felt keenly, by many, and for a long time. She is a force, a generous leader and storyteller, and an oracle for disabled futures. Much love to Alice and to all our crip kin and comrades. ❤️‍🩹

I wonder if anyone on here can help? Attached is a section from a 1706 volume, with shorthand annotations that look like Brachygraphy to me. The assumption has to be that they represent the biblical passages in the nearby text, but I can't make the shorthand agree with the texts being referenced.

This is horrible news. This program is a huge success, identifies brilliant scholars and gives them a transitional landing place that can help them land a tenure track job in the system. It’s a win for students, their programs, and all the schools in the system. Why end it?
