The Harper trade was a joke. I met Gund in the coastal town of Florence, OR as a sportswriter for the Siuslaw News in 1991. His son had biked from coast to coast with friends. I wrote an article about it. Gund seemed like a nice guy. He told me that I could talk to Cavs GM Wayne Embry any time. 🏀
From "Unguarded," by Lenny Wilkens (w/Terry Pluto), the Harper-Ferry trade. Gund made them trade Harper based on fear of Harp's friends (even though he never did have any issues). Lenny was then told by Ferry's Italian coach that Danny wasn't good enough to make the Cavs.

I just finished reading "Unguarded" three days ago! Great minds think alike. Visited Lenny's new statue at Climate Pledge Arena in December. The City of Seattle was lucky to have him. BTW: A SuperSonics book, "What's Happenin'?" by Blaine Johnson (copyright 1978), is next on my reading list.

Picked this up in the New England area in 2024. Great player with some history in the ABA. 🏀

"House" scored the final two points in ABA history, dropping in a lay-up as the buzzer sounded for the New York Nets in Game 6 of the 1975-76 finals. Rich finished with a 1-for-12 shooting performance but the Nets outscored the Nuggets 34-14 in that final quarter to win the crown. 🏀

From the "Rick Barry" issue of The Sporting News. How did the ABA's Denver Nuggets get David Thompson with the first pick in the 1975 ABA Draft after finishing with a league-best 65-19 record during the 1974-75 season? 🏀

Today's haul. Piecing together the 1974-75 Topps set. Wondering why Topps produced both an NBA "Scoring" and a "Scoring Avg" card? Slightly different results but the top three are the same guys. 🏀

The new branding looks great, Adam, and that Mike Riordan podcast was so entertaining. We've always heard from Frazier, Monroe, Reed and Lucas about those 1970s New York Knicks. Riordan's insight was refreshing - a different angle from the rest. Sounds like a great guy, too. 🏀

These two Australians triggering American gun-humpers and then reacting to the flood of hysterical reactions is pretty great.

Pablo Torre had to leave ESPN to carve out a spot in the media landscape that fits him, mixing the silly — even the salacious — with the smart.

Here's how the journalist has been able to cut through the noise with his own show, “Pablo Torre Finds Out”: http://dlvr.it/TL47fH

Kind of reminds me of this guy, who was one of my favorite Reds before signing with the Mets in 1982.
