🧵 I love vibrant colours & the excitement they provide, as well as learning about the mythology & art of ancient Gaelic times. Such as at Glendalough [my pic]. These things have a massive impact on my own art.

An overview of how the inauguration of Catherine Connolly, President-Elect of Ireland, will be conferred as Uachtarán na hÉireann, tomorrow. I would have loved to watch but will be being looked after in hospital. Symbolism matters, whether it is a first citizen, or the health of all citizens. ☘️
Timeline: How the presidential inauguration will unfold

Michael D Higgins [b 1941], Uachtarán na hÉireann (2011-2025) will finish his two terms of the Irish presidency tonight. Interesting perspective on the two terms of the Irish president Michael D Higgins, which end tonight.
Perhaps the most popular Irish man in Ireland, he has used his office to speak for the nation & for social justice. His successor has big shoes to fill, & is also a socialist. A good read:

Last night I was covering a violent bunch of racists who call themselves UKIP.
Among them were people waving "Adult Human Female" flags.
Below are people promoting the same "Adult Human Female" bullshit on Beeston High Road.
Treat these transphobes as the far-right hate group they really are.

Having had my puzzle box scanned from every direction & my eyes investigated, this evening, I’m feeling v tired. I think I’ll read a horror novel & go to sleep! Goodnight from Smithfield Square!

I don’t get really angry, except where children get treated badly - especially Irish ones. Harvey Sherratt’s parents are both lovely & heroic & v unassuming. The state has put Harvey & his family thru hell, despite copious promises from politicians. All Ireland is angry! This needs to be fixed.
Harvey Sherratt's mother shocked at whistleblower claims about son’s care by CHI
It is alleged that Children’s Health Ireland removed Harvey from its active spinal surgery waiting list after it wrongly determined he was a ‘palliative’ patient.

I’m surprised Davie has resigned over that Panorama edit (seems like a bit of a nothingburger to me) but I’m glad he’s gone. On his watch the BBC simply gave up the ghost on factual documentary TV, and decided the best way to serve its audience was to patronise it.

Interesting to see the Director General of the BBC resign. One wonders whether the next one won’t be a Tory activist censoring LGBTQ ppl & pushing culture wars against the community.
Ironic that he wasn’t right wing enough where it mattered - Trump!
Perhaps the BBC could try facts & neutrality?

I was inside the MRI for about 40 minutes & just meditated & allowed my mind to free associate. It was mostly imaged based until the very last scan which sounded more intense. Suddenly the images disappeared & shapes took over. It was fascinating.

I’ve realised I’m relatively indifferent, emotionally, to a lot of things ppl reply to me about angrily. I do have one sore spot & that’s the Celtic-speaking peoples. For my PhD I had to do a lot of research on these people & their impact on these islands. They became very real to me.

Medical poking day. Today was MRI & MRA scans to track the development of my blindness. Amazing equipment & the specialists gave me digital copies to play with. They were amused I was turning their work into art. Meanwhile the apocalypse has started in Smithfield, Dublin [the ancient horse market]

75% of Irish ppl believe in an independent neutral Ireland; we choose how we defend ourselves in line with longstanding friends, such as France; Irish ally since 1798. The €200m+ Dublin EU Presidency shows that Ireland does not have to join NATO. Those keen on war, not peace, are in a tiny minority*
