Earlier this year @margynewens.bsky.social and I promised to make safety at Judith Kerr Primary school our top priority. Now we’re delivering. If you live nearby please respond to our consultation about widening the pavement and a raised zebra crossing.

Had a conversation with a consultant friend with no traffic experience over the summer who’d just written a paper extolling the virtues of AVs. He couldn’t understand my concerns about induced demand… here it is:
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

Well done Helen Hayes! Clear publicity at the beginning of a select committee investigation (into children's reading for pleasure) which will make it easy to report later as well. Government should take notice and do some more media commentary (not speculation or dangling of bait).

Omg, he’s at it again, more amazing geological detective work…
When I wrote about the ancient Zanclean megaflood filling the Mediterranean in as little as 12-18 months (!), it was wistfully.

I'm English. Lovely place, England, but Big Geological Drama? None of that round 'ere, sadly.

Imagine my delight at what geophysicists found in the English Channel.

Are you looking around primary schools at the moment? Can you ask a question about school travel and #AirPollution?

Here are some facts about why an active school run is the way to go:

Very sad news. The Stone Roses first album never seems to date, it still blows me away nearly 40 years later. Mani’s bass is a vital part of that sound.

Having Johnson & Cummings in Downing Street when Covid struck was, just like Brexit, an entirely avoidable disaster caused largely by utterly appalling journalism. And now exactly the same clowns, arses & bigots with bylines are rolling out the red carpet for Farage.

Jaw-dropping update about our leasehold investigation detailing the lengths to which my colleague @djstimms.bsky.social has gone to track down Andrew Milne.

Particularly enjoyed the fact that colleagues from Liverpool and London were also involved. Mill Media is now more than the sum of its parts.
Horrified, Becky read Milne’s words. “I accordingly am entitled to vacant possession of the property”, he asserted. “I am writing to give you 7 days notice that I will have a locksmith and agent attend to recover possession for me and change the locks”.

Latest update in our Andrew Milne story 👇
After Becky’s mum died, it was time to sell her childhood home. Then Andrew Milne got in touch

As a councillor wholly invested in supporting Active Travel, I’m going to wait to see the detail before losing my mind over this. I’m v keen to see low earners be able to buy a decent reliable bike for everyday use. I’m not keen to see low earners subsidise rich people to buy £10k road bikes.

Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.

There are many subtle and complex arguments one can have about the future of the BBC — but I guarantee you that no other channel or streaming service will be as committed to factual programming, children’s education, history shows, religious discussion, poetry, arts, or state of the nation debate

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

I have written some stuff about BBC/Public Service broadcasting which I'll start putting out soon. I don't think there's enough public policy debate - when I was doing broadcasting/Charter Review in the regulator and Government there was an industry around it. Now everyone has moved on to "tech".

I spent nearly 25 years working for the BBC and emerged glad to be no longer working for it. But, 2 contradictory observations seem likely this morning. 1. Some of the criticisms are merited. 2. They’re being manipulated by bad actors who don’t care about the UK or the BBC.
