GIMP 3.0 is out and they finally fixed the UI scaling! Maybe I can actually comfortably use it now 😂 Let's give it another try.

oof, Scala Steward made a PR which looked like it was updating a dependency version but it actually changed a normal source file outside the project folder. That was an api version header of an external service... 😭

Today when I went out for lunch I saw a Velomobile for the first time in person. It was kind of surreal. I was like, "What is this mini shinkansen barreling towards me!? ...oh" 😅

For example, we have a extensive (and expensive 😅) test suite that's heavy on integration + E2E testing so being able to take something that takes 45 minutes in CI and reducing it to 15 minutes has been incredibly helpful for faster iteration/feedback.

Again, this is sarcasm but in Japanese "Just what we needed" sounds sincere which is confusing
It's not true that Japanese doesn't have sarcasm (that's a common misconception) but _this style_ of sarcasm doesn't work if translated directly. You need to adjust it for it to work.

"They run, you're dead" in English means "(If) they run, you're dead". That omitted "if" is not captured in the Japanese. So it just sounds strange, like two seemingly unrelated statements.

"As if I'd swallow a drop of that swill" turned into "I'd like to try some of that". Exactly the opposite meaning. Unfortunately there's a lot of these opposite dialogue options due to misunderstandings of certain English expressions and sarcasm.

"I'll finish up here" got translated like "My business is done here". That doesn't make sense because I'm trying to tell them that I'm going to do their work for them. So business is NOT done.

Ok this one is a disaster 😂 I can't even really make sense of it. Did "shitting" get translated as "sitting"? And "unclog your hole" turned into "clean your hole" in a literal way. It doesn't work like it does in English. "Just sit and clean your hole?" 😕

The "discreet" here is referring to being quiet/careful/not making a scene. In Japanese that got translated as if I know some kind of secret of theirs and I'm promising not to reveal it to others. That's not the situation here though.

This guy speaks in broken English so I get the challenge, but he's saying he'll be more careful next time. In Japanese however he's telling you to be more careful, which doesn't make sense considering what happened.

"Listen and stare into the hole" got translated literally as if I'm commanding someone else to do it. Like "Listen to what I'm/they're saying. Go and stare into the hole".

The English "I'm coming along" is referring to her condition (she's injured). She's still recovering. She WON'T be following you. So that's going to confuse anyone playing in Japanese.

It worked! I created a mod for Baldur's Gate 3 so that I can display multiple languages simultaneously. Generally you'd only use it for 2 languages, but 3 works all the same (even if it's overkill... 😅)
I mostly do this for language learning, as well as analyzing localizations.

It worked! I created a mod for Baldur's Gate 3 so that I can display multiple languages simultaneously. Generally you'd only use it for 2 languages, but 3 works all the same (even if it's overkill... 😅)

It's java.time (but joda-time is essentially the same here). It has to do with the adjustment that happens if the resulting date would no longer be valid since different months have different amounts of days.
