Which in no way negates the need to be aware of and sensitive to modern racial dynamics of oppression, but like, ye gods the whole idea is so SILLY if you actually stop to think about it!

And most commonly, looking broadly at the whole of human history, the “other” that was treated as lesser was more often NOT about skin color, but about familial or national association, caste/social hierarchies, or cultural group differences.

Also also, literally none of the historic cultural groups typically considered “white” is actually an ethnostate or ethnocentric culture. People moved around and adopted new cultures sometimes! For a lot of reasons! Difficulty of long-distance travel limited it, but it’s always been a thing.

If you think you don’t like Brussels sprouts I can change your mind. Give me a pack of bacon, a cast-iron pan & a stovetop, a basic spice rack, and half an hour.

My job is always side dish because I’m a wizard at stir fries and can make everyone come back for seconds of brussels sprouts even when there’s pie on the table.

(The secret is roasting them in bacon fat with a little pepper, and not overcooking them to mush)
