It shouldn't be surprising that some privileged women, especially privileged white women, use feminism to uphold their privilege & gain more power instead of actually working for the liberation of all women. Too many still act shocked when white radfems choose white supremacy & call it feminism.

I don't think describing the alliance as "bizarre" is really helpful either. What's bizarre about one of the whitest, most authoritarian factions of feminism working with other authoritarians to acquire more power? They're figured out a bargain that gives them global power.

Trans rights, sex worker’s rights and surrogacy rights are intertwined with overall women’s liberation and reproductive rights.

Prior to FEMMVA receiving money from the Heritage Foundation in 2018 or so, they frequently talked about how surrogate pregnancies supposedly undermined the right to abortion. But after they received that money? not a peep about abortion, even tho it was a pivotal fight in Mexico at the time.

I should have phrased it more like "Rental Wombs" but whatever, you get the point.

FEMMVA is dead, afaik, but it’s director and founder, Laura Lecuona, is managing the Women’s Rights Declaration branch for Mexico nowadays.

It makes sense to still be critical. I understand why a lot of people working for better reproductive care are still caught up in shit like "natural births" but ultimately we need to get to a better framework.

Problem is, the more you externalize these problems, the more you idealize and fetishize those spaces, and waxing philosophical about the 'wisdom of the volk' is, generally, the worst imaginable approach when dealing with viral bullshit.

There's a particularly noxious strain of implicit populism running through these discussions, left and centre (tho in slightly different ways), which simply cannot conceive of bad ideas emerging from or thriving in an authentic, grassroots, democratic and/or radical space.

I haven't come across any connection but I'm not super well-versed in reproductive care world. I think the concept of "natural birth" is sketch but not everyone who uses that language/concept is as fucked up as the free birthers or TERF midwives.

Definitely. The article doesn’t really go into what they mean by radical feminism but it’s the specifically ecofascist TERF kind practiced by the likes of Mary Lou Singleton & Lierre Kieth. bsky.app/profile/did:...
Some of the alt-health grifter TERFs I used to track, like Mary Lou Singleton & Isabella Malbin, used to have ties to the Free Birth Society but even they're denouncing it now while still pushing their own version of "natural/wild birth". Lierre Keith also did an interview on FBS podcast.
Influencers made millions pushing ‘wild’ births – now the Free Birth Society is linked to baby deaths around the world www.theguardian.com/world/ng-int...
